On the 24th of September, 2023, just before 8 p.m., officers from the Louisiana State Police Troop A started to investigate a collision involving two vehicles close to the crossing of LA 441 and Herman Hutchinson Road in Livingston Parish. The crash sadly resulted in the death of Tracy Gauthier, a 57-year-old resident of Holden, Louisiana.
The preliminary inquiry showed that Gauthier was driving a Mahindra 5005 DI Tractor northbound on LA 441. Concurrently, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was following the agricultural vehicle. The exact reasons are still under examination, but the Malibu ended up hitting the back of the tractor, resulting in Gauthier being thrown off.
Gauthier, who was not restrained during the crash, was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually died from his injuries. The individual driving the Malibu was wearing a seatbelt and was also rushed to a nearby hospital, suffering from moderate injuries.
The crash is still being investigated.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to emphasize to drivers the importance of making smart decisions while operating vehicles. This includes always ensuring all passengers are properly buckled up, avoiding impaired driving, and staying focused while driving. These steps can often prove to be the difference between life and death. A crash can happen in a split second, leading to life-altering consequences. Bear in mind that auto crashes can be avoided and correct decisions taken when driving can help avert injuries and fatalities.
