Louisiana Couple Arrested in Connection With Multiple Business Burglaries Totaling Over $1 Million

Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana – A couple from Louisiana has been arrested in connection with multiple business burglaries that have totaled over one million dollars.

On May 15, 2023, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet reported the arrest of a Houma, Louisiana man in connection with a Burglary Investigation that occurred at a Terrebonne Parish-based business property. Russell Duncan Britt, 61, of Houma, Louisiana was arrested on a variety of offenses related to the investigation.

According to reports, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) Patrol Division was dispatched to a business in the 100 block of Commercial Drive on May 7, 2023, after employees discovered evidence of a burglary. Patrol Deputies responded and interviewed witnesses, who stated that when they arrived at the business, they saw two unknown persons rush into a wooded area nearby, leaving a suspicious vehicle. A detailed check of the site revealed that many items were missing from the business. Authorities confirmed the evidence at the site and secured the vehicle as potential evidence. Deputies searched the establishment and surrounding area but were unable to find the suspects.

TPSO Deputies continued their investigation and were able to connect the vehicle to the investigation. Many stolen items were discovered during a search of the vehicle at the site. The vehicle was investigated by TPSO Property Crime Detectives, who assisted in the identification of Russell Duncan Britt as a suspect. Investigators were able to ascertain that the stolen items from the business totaled more than $1,000,000.00.

Britt was eventually apprehended by detectives and brought in for questioning, where he reportedly admitted to repeated burglaries at the business. Britt was charged with four charges of simple burglary, felony theft, and unauthorized use of a movable. Britt was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where he is being held by local judges on a $175,000 bond.

Investigators were able to identify the second suspect as Angela F. Rainey, 52, of Houma, Louisiana as the investigation progressed. Rainey was eventually apprehended by detectives and taken in for questioning, where she also reportedly admitted to repeated burglaries at the business. Rainey was arrested on four charges of simple burglary, one case of felony theft, and several outstanding warrants. Rainey was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and is being held on a total bond of $131,500 by local judges.

Sheriff Tim Soignet indicated that he is pleased with the outstanding work completed by the TPSO Patrol in the apprehension of Lefort. Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “I’m very proud of the job completed by our Patrol Division, as well as the observant actions of the witnesses in this case. This is another example of what can be accomplished when Law Enforcement and the public work together.”

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
