Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins Announces Additional $11.3M For Hurricane Laura Recovery

Lafayette, Louisiana – On August 5, 2022, Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana announced that FEMA is awarding an additional $11,344,560.38 in Public Assistance reimbursements for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana.

The reimbursements include:

• $2,766,901.89 to the City of Sulphur for emergency protective measures in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
• $1,093,213.62 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs at Sulphur High School as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
• $1,921,822.62 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs at LeBlanc Middle School as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
• $1,438,724.15 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs at Sam Houston High School as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
• $4,123,898.10 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for repairs at the Curriculum & Instruction Tech Center as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

According to a press release from Higgins’ office, much of the official Congressional work to advance projects occurs unseen, over the course of many months. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the results of constant efforts with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
