Louisiana – The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (LCLE) has been awarded a significant grant of $15,454,563 by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime and Office on Violence Against Women. The funding will be used to enhance support services for victims of crime, strengthen law enforcement strategies to combat violent crimes against women, and provide financial assistance to eligible victims.
According to U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr., the grant is divided into three main categories. The first allocation of $2,362,000 will be used to enhance State Victim Compensation payments to eligible crime victims, providing financial assistance to federal and state victims of crime. This funding will help alleviate some of the financial burdens that often come with being a victim of crime, such as medical expenses, lost wages, and other related costs.
The second allocation of $10,662,795 will be used to enhance crime victim services in the state, providing funds from the Crime Victims Fund to support local organizations that provide essential services to victims of crime. The Crime Victims Fund is a federal program that provides financial support to victims of crime, using funds collected from fines, fees, and forfeitures.
The third allocation of $2,429,768 will be used to develop and strengthen law enforcement, prosecution, and court strategies to combat violent crimes against women. This funding will also support the development of victim services, including community-based, culturally specific services, in cases involving domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
LCLE is a foundation dedicated to improving the operations of the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems, promoting public safety, and providing progressive leadership and coordination within the criminal justice community. Based in Baton Rouge, LCLE works to enhance the overall effectiveness of the justice system, ensuring that victims of crime receive the support and services they need.
