New Orleans, Louisiana — A Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) employee was arrested on drug charges following a routine traffic stop in New Orleans, authorities announced.

Anthony Reed, 27, of New Orleans, was taken into custody on April 9, 2025, after Louisiana State Troopers discovered approximately 218 grams of suspected marijuana in his vehicle, along with items police say are consistent with drug distribution operations.

The incident occurred around noon when troopers pulled over Reed’s Toyota sedan for multiple traffic violations near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue. During their investigation, officers found the suspected marijuana in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Reed was subsequently booked into Orleans Parish Prison on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I (Marijuana) and additional traffic-related offenses.

In response to the arrest, DCFS Secretary David Matlock issued a statement emphasizing the department’s commitment to child welfare.

“The safety and well-being of children and families is our highest priority,” Matlock said. “When a situation arises involving one of our staff members that calls that commitment into question, we take it seriously.”

Matlock also expressed gratitude toward law enforcement agencies for their “collaboration and dedication to public safety,” noting their work “plays an essential role in upholding accountability and maintaining trust across the systems that serve Louisiana’s families.”

Louisiana State Police indicated the investigation remains ongoing. Members of the public with information related to the case are encouraged to file anonymous reports through the LSP online reporting system or by calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.

Authorities did not specify Reed’s role within DCFS or how long he had been employed with the agency.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
