Louisiana Boater Arrested for Vehicular Homicide and Other Charges in Connection with Fatal July 23 Boating Incident
Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on July 24, 2022, that enforcement division agents are looking into a boating fatality that occurred on July 23 in Tangipahoa Parish.
Around 4:30 p.m., agents were notified of a boating fatality on Lake Pontchartrain. Hunter Prevost, 21, of Loranger, Louisiana, was found dead around 7 p.m. According to the other passengers on board, Prevost fell off the front of a 25-foot vessel and was struck by the propeller. During the investigation, agents reportedly discovered that the vessel’s operator, Lane Keenan, 22, of Folsom, Louisiana, was impaired and arrested him for DWI, vehicular homicide, and reckless operation of a vessel.
Vehicular homicide carries a fine of $2,000 to $15,000 and a prison sentence of five to 30 years. DWI carries a fine of $300 to $1,000 and up to six months in jail. Unsafe vessel operation can result in a $200 fine and 90 days in jail.
The LDWF will lead the investigation into this fatal boating accident. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office received Prevost’s body.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
