Louisiana Bill to Decriminalize Marijuana Passes House will Move to Senate

A bill that recently passed in the Louisiana House of Representatives would reduce the criminal penalties for possessing 14 grams or less of marijuana to a fine of $100. If signed into law the bill would also remove jail time for first and subsequent convictions of possession of marijuana for 14 grams or less.
The bill passed the House on May 11, 2021, with a vote of 67 yeas and 25 nays, and will proceed to the Louisiana State Senate.
