Denham Springs, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop A is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist Monday evening on LA 1025 in Livingston Parish.
Jason Causey, 53, of Denham Springs, died following the crash that occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on November 17, 2025, near Somerset Lane.
According to the preliminary investigation, Causey was riding his bicycle westbound on LA 1025 in a right-hand curve when a 2002 Dodge Ram, also traveling west, approached his location. The right side of the truck struck Causey for reasons that remain under investigation.
Emergency responders transported Causey to a local hospital with serious injuries. He later succumbed to those injuries at the medical facility.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained no injuries. Louisiana State Police do not suspect impairment played a role in the incident, though investigators will submit routine toxicology samples for laboratory analysis as part of standard procedure.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The agency has not released additional details about what may have caused the truck to strike the bicyclist.
LA 1025 serves as a connector roadway in Livingston Parish, linking communities in the Denham Springs area.
Louisiana law requires motorists to maintain a safe distance when passing bicyclists. The state mandates drivers give at least three feet of clearance when overtaking a bicycle on roadways.
State Police remind motorists to exercise caution when sharing the road with bicyclists, particularly in areas with limited visibility, such as curves. Drivers should reduce speed and allow adequate passing distance when approaching cyclists.
