Pierre Part, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on Louisiana Highway 1016-2 (Belle River Road) near Cypress Street in Assumption Parish that occurred on January 7, 2026.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop C, troopers began investigating the serious injury crash shortly before 6 p.m. The incident later resulted in the death of 65-year-old Dalton Ackman of Pierre Part.

Sequence Of The Crash

The preliminary investigation shows that Ackman was riding a bicycle north in the roadway on LA Highway 1016-2. Troopers noted that the bicycle did not have the required lighting, which is mandated under Louisiana law for nighttime riding so that cyclists can be seen more easily by drivers.

At the same time, a 2012 Ford F-150 was also traveling north on LA 1016-2. For reasons that remain under investigation, the right side of the F-150 struck Ackman as he rode in the northbound lane.

After the initial impact, both Ackman and his bicycle came to rest in the northbound lane of travel. A 2024 Ford Bronco, which had been traveling behind the F-150, then struck Ackman while he was in the roadway.

Injuries And Medical Response

Ackman sustained serious injuries in the crash. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later died as a result of his injuries.

Troopers reported that both the driver of the F-150 and the driver of the Bronco were properly restrained at the time of the incident and were not injured.

Impairment And Toxicology Testing

Louisiana State Police stated that the driver of the F-150 showed no signs of impairment at the scene. That driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected.

As part of standard investigative procedure in fatal or serious injury crashes, a toxicology sample was collected from Ackman and from the driver of the Ford Bronco. Those samples will be analyzed to determine whether any substances were present. Results have not yet been released.

Ongoing Louisiana State Police Investigation

Troopers are working to determine all contributing factors, including visibility, roadway conditions, and the sequence of events leading up to both impacts.

No charges or citations have been announced at this time.
