Port Allen, Louisiana - A two-vehicle crash on LA 986 near Laplace Lane, shortly after 1:00 p.m. on July 31, 2025, resulted in the death of 66-year-old Jerry Scott of Port Allen, Louisiana, according to Louisiana State Police. Troopers from State Police Troop A responded to the incident, which remains under investigation.

Based on the initial police investigation, a 2022 Ford delivery truck was traveling eastbound on LA 986 and had slowed to a stop, preparing for a left turn onto a private drive. Scott, operating a 2017 Nissan Sentra and traveling east in the same direction behind the delivery truck, did not stop for reasons state police are still examining. The Sentra struck the rear of the stopped delivery truck.

Authorities reported that Scott was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the responding emergency personnel. The driver of the Ford truck, who was properly restrained, did not suffer any injuries.

Louisiana State Police indicated that seat belt use is a critical factor often emphasized by law enforcement and transportation safety officials.
