Louisiana Attorney General’s Office Arrests Nursing Home Owner Bob Dean on Multiple Felony Charges

Louisiana – On June 22, 2022, the Office of Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the arrest of Bob Glynn Dean, Jr., the owner of seven Louisiana nursing homes that evacuated to a warehouse in Independence prior to Hurricane Ida. Dean, 68, of Thomaston, Georgia, has been charged with eight felonies of Cruelty to Persons with Disabilities, five felonies of Medicaid Fraud, and two felonies of Obstruction of Justice in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana.

The arrest follows a joint investigation by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) and his Louisiana Bureau of Investigations (LBI) that revealed Dean refused to move his residents out of the warehouse after Hurricane Ida, billed Medicaid for dates his residents were not receiving proper care, and engaged in conduct intended to intimidate or obstruct public health officials and law enforcement.

The MFCU and LBI were assisted by the Office of Inspector General of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. As the Attorney General’s Office investigation continues, additional legal action may be filed in the future.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
