SULPHUR, La. — Leland Street in Sulphur is closed to through traffic between Ewel Street and Ruth Street starting Wednesday, Feb. 18, as part of an ongoing concrete rehabilitation project, according to a press release from the City of Sulphur.

City officials stated the closure will remain in place “until work is complete.” No specific end date was provided. The closure affects only through traffic, meaning drivers who typically use Leland Street as a cut-through route will need to follow detour signs and choose alternate streets in the area.

Detour signage will be posted to guide motorists around the work zone. The city noted that access to driveways along the affected section of Leland Street “should not be affected,” indicating local residents and property owners are expected to be able to enter and exit their homes and businesses throughout the project.

The concrete rehab work is part of routine roadway maintenance, a process that often includes repairing, replacing, or reinforcing damaged concrete to improve ride quality and extend the life of the street.

Drivers traveling in this part of Sulphur should:

  • Expect lane and route changes near Leland Street
  • Allow extra travel time during peak hours
  • Follow all posted detour signs
  • Use caution when driving near workers and equipment

The city is asking the public to “follow signage in the area and drive with caution” while the project is underway.
