LeBleu Settlement, Louisiana - LeBleu Settlement residents should prepare for potential temporary water discoloration and low pressure as Waterworks District 8 of Wards 3 and 8 begins a comprehensive fire hydrant inspection program on Monday, November 3.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced that Utiliserve, a specialized utility services company, will conduct hydrant inspections, flushing, and testing throughout the service area over approximately two weeks. The work aims to ensure all fire hydrants meet current firefighting and insurance standards, which are critical for both emergency response and property insurance rates.

During the inspection period, crews will systematically test hydrants across the LeBleu Settlement area, a process that can temporarily stir up sediment in water lines. The Police Jury advised residents to limit water use when they notice crews working nearby to minimize the likelihood of discolored water entering their homes.

Water discoloration during hydrant flushing is a common and harmless occurrence caused by sediment disturbance in distribution pipes. The particles are typically iron and manganese deposits that accumulate naturally over time in water systems.

Residents who experience discolored water should run their cold water tap for approximately two minutes to clear the lines. If discoloration persists after this initial flushing, the Waterworks District has established a dedicated assistance line at 337-721-3754.

Regular hydrant maintenance is required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which sets standards for fire safety equipment. Insurance companies often review hydrant testing records when determining rates for homes and businesses, making these inspections financially significant for property owners in addition to their safety importance.

The two-week timeline allows Utiliserve technicians to methodically inspect each hydrant for proper water flow, pressure levels, and mechanical operation. This preventive maintenance helps identify potential problems before they become critical during emergency situations.

Waterworks District 8 serves the LeBleu Settlement community in Wards 3 and 8 of Calcasieu Parish, providing water service to residential and commercial customers in the area.
