Lebanese National Found Guilty in Federal Court in Louisiana of Illegal Possession of Firearms
Louisiana – On December 20, 2022, following a two-day jury trial before Chief United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown, United States Attorney Duane A. Evans stated that 28-year-old Lebanese-born Kamal Al Jawhari was found guilty as charged.
Jawhari was found guilty on two counts of possession of a firearm by an illegal alien in violation of 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5) (A). At sentence, Jawhari faces a potential jail term of 10 years, a maximum fine of $250,000.00, a maximum of 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment charge for each offense. After the completion of his term, Jawhari faces the potential of deportation.
U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement department in its investigation of this matter. The prosecution is led by Spiridon G. Latsis, David Berman, and Rachal Cassagne, Assistant United States Attorneys.
