Moss Bluff, Louisiana — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon during a child custody exchange on S. Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff. Authorities report that Brett Daigle, 48, of Canyon City, Colorado, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies responded to the incident around 2:30 p.m. on May 24, following a 911 call about a shooting at a local residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Daigle deceased and immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.

According to initial findings from detectives, Randolyn P. Allen, 43, of Lake Charles, discharged a firearm during the custody exchange. Allen was present at the residence and, during the course of the exchange, allegedly fired several shots that struck Daigle.

Detectives conducted interviews with several witnesses as well as Allen herself. Based on the evidence gathered, Allen was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. She faces a charge of second-degree murder. As of Saturday, her bond remains pending.

Second-degree murder in Louisiana is a serious felony, defined as the intentional killing of another person without premeditation but with malice. If convicted, Allen could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation remains ongoing. Detective Larry Cormier is serving as the lead investigator in this case. Authorities have not released further details regarding the motive or specific circumstances that led to the shooting.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
