Lake Charles Woman Arrested for Alleged Firearms Thefts

Published November 9, 2021

A Lake Charles woman has been arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on two counts of theft of firearms.

On November 5, investigators with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of two weapons being stolen. Shamberly M. Edgerton, 42, of Lake Charles, LA was determined to have gone to the victim’s house when he was out of town during the inquiry. Edgerton was allowed inside by a roommate, who explained that she was there to collect the victim’s items for safekeeping until he returned. When detectives spoke with Edgerton, she admitted to taking some of the victim’s possessions from his home, including two firearms, despite the fact that he had not asked her to do so. The firearms were inside her vehicle when it was burglarized at a local boat launch, she told detectives, and the guns were stolen. Edgerton was discovered to have failed to disclose the vehicle burglary to law enforcement.

Edgerton was apprehended and put into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on two counts of firearms theft. Her bond was set at $2,500 by Judge Derek Kee. Edgerton’s probation has also been revoked.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Chris Duhon is the lead investigator on this case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
