West Prien Lake Road Widening Project Update: Completion Date Set for Spring 2025

Lake Charles, Louisiana - The City of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish Police Jury are working together on the West Prien Lake Road Widening Project, which is currently on track for completion in spring 2025.

The City of Lake Charles recently released an update regarding the project.

The project involves widening West Prien Lake Road from Cove Lane south to Ihles Road. The improvements will include a bike path on the west side of the road, sidewalks on the east side, and major upgrades to drainage, water, and sewer infrastructure.

One significant aspect of the project is the reconstruction of Sale Road, which will be transformed into a 3-lane roadway from Rue Chan Ann Lane to West Prien Lake Road.

Current Phase of West Prien Lake Road Widening Project in Lake Charles

The current phase of the project, focusing on widening and paving West Prien Lake Road south of Sale Road, is nearing completion and is expected to finish by March 1, 2024. Once this phase is done, West Prien Lake Road south of Sale Road will be reopened to both north and southbound traffic.

Next Phase of West Prien Lake Road Widening Project in Lake Charles

The next phase, set to commence on March 4, 2024, will involve the widening of West Prien Lake Road north of Sale Road. This phase will include the installation of new drainage infrastructure and concrete pavement. It is projected to last until December 27, 2024.

Starting at 7 a.m. on March 4, 2024, West Prien Lake Road from the Cove Lane traffic circle south to Sale Road will be open to southbound traffic only. Northbound traffic will be directed to detour via Sale Road to Burton Lane during this period.

Furthermore, beginning at 7 a.m. on March 4, 2024, Henderson Bayou Road at its junction with West Prien Lake Road will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new concrete pavement and is expected to remain in place until 5 p.m. on March 29, 2024.
