Lake Charles, Louisiana - Beginning April 30, Lake Charles residents will encounter a series of lane closures across the city as Entergy contractors undertake utility pole replacement work.
The city announced that the infrastructure improvement project will affect multiple streets throughout Lake Charles, with daily closures occurring from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., pending favorable weather conditions.
This necessary utility work will help modernize our infrastructure.
The first phase of lane closures will impact Illinois Street between Louisiana Avenue and East Walton Street from April 30 through May 8. Motorists should expect alternating lane closures during daytime hours.
Concurrently, Brentwood Street between Tennessee Street and Illinois Street will experience southbound lane closures from May 1 through May 8, also during the 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. timeframe.
Additional areas affected include 3rd and 4th Avenues between 1st Street and 5th Street, with alternating lane closures scheduled from May 2 through May 6. The final phase targets 1st Street between 2nd Avenue and 4th Avenue on May 7 and 8.
Transportation officials advise commuters to plan alternative routes when possible and allow extra travel time through these areas. The utility pole replacements are part of Entergy's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve electrical infrastructure throughout the region.
Local businesses along the affected routes will remain accessible during construction, though customers may need to adjust their approach depending on which lanes are closed each day.
While the work may cause temporary inconvenience, the infrastructure improvements aim to enhance service reliability for Lake Charles residents and businesses in the long term.
