Lake Charles, Louisiana - Lake Charles police advised drivers late Thursday morning to avoid Interstate 210 westbound near the Nelson Road exit after a crash left a vehicle rolled over and both westbound lanes blocked.
The crash was reported at about 10:35 a.m. on December 26, according to information released at the time. Police said all traffic on I-210 westbound was being diverted onto the Nelson Road exit while first responders worked the scene.
No estimate for how long the closure would last was provided. Authorities also did not release information on possible injuries, how many vehicles were involved, or what may have led to the incident.
Traffic Diversions and Delays
With both westbound lanes blocked, drivers were forced to exit onto Nelson Road, creating the potential for heavy delays in the area. Motorists traveling through Lake Charles on I-210 westbound were urged to:
- Use alternate routes when possible
- Expect slower-than-normal traffic near the Nelson Road exit
- Follow directions from law enforcement and posted traffic control devices
Because I-210 is a key route around Lake Charles, even one blocked segment can slow traffic along connecting roadways.
Safety Guidance for Drivers
Police urged drivers to avoid the area while the crash was being handled. When a vehicle flips in a crash, emergency crews often need to fully shut down lanes for safety while they stabilize the vehicle, clear debris, and investigate the incident.
