Lake Charles, Louisiana — The City of Lake Charles is set to mark National Kids to Parks Day with a community-wide celebration at Lock Park on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event, organized by the Lake Charles Recreation and Parks Department, is designed to connect local families and children with outdoor recreation opportunities, in line with the annual nationwide initiative promoted by the National Park Trust.

National Kids to Parks Day, observed every third Saturday in May, aims to encourage children and their families to venture outdoors and engage with local parks and public spaces. The event serves to foster a lifelong appreciation for nature, physical activity, and community involvement.

This year, Lake Charles’ celebration will feature a carnival-themed extravaganza at Lock Park, located at 1535 Ryan St. The event is free and open to the public, making it accessible for families from across the community. Attractions include classic carnival games, balloon animals, and engaging entertainment from clowns. A popular highlight, Chuck the Train, will be offering rides for children, adding to the festive atmosphere. Complimentary refreshments will also be provided, and additional activities are planned to ensure a memorable experience for attendees of all ages.

The City’s Recreation and Parks Department emphasizes that events like National Kids to Parks Day play a vital role in promoting the benefits of outdoor play. Studies have shown that regular engagement with nature can improve children’s physical health, emotional well-being, and social skills.

Parents or guardians interested in learning more about the event or seeking additional information about local recreation facilities may contact the Recreation and Parks Department at 337-491-1280 or email [email protected].

National Kids to Parks Day is part of a broader initiative to highlight the significance of public parks in fostering healthy communities. Local leaders hope that families who attend will be inspired to visit Lake Charles parks throughout the year, taking advantage of the amenities and programs available.
