Lake Charles, Louisiana — The Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center is set to launch a new, immersive exhibit celebrating the diverse musical traditions of Southwest Louisiana. The exhibit, titled “Lake Area Music: Roots, Rhythms, and Resonance,” will open to the public on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Second Floor Gallery of the Historic City Hall, located at 1001 Ryan Street.
An Immersive Exploration of Local Music Genres
This dynamic exhibit will feature a comprehensive look at the region’s musical history, spanning genres such as Zydeco, Cajun, Country, Jazz, Swamp Pop, and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore historical photographs, rare instruments, and cultural artifacts that illustrate the evolution and enduring influence of local music. Interactive audio experiences are designed to engage visitors, allowing them to listen to samples and gain a deeper understanding of the distinctive sounds that define Southwest Louisiana.
Opening Night Coincides with Downtown at Sundown
To mark the exhibit’s debut, the opening night will coincide with the kickoff of Downtown at Sundown, a community event known for live music and outdoor festivities. Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, visitors can enjoy both the new exhibit indoors and live performances just outside on the front plaza. Organizers hope this combination of activities will draw a diverse crowd, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment in the heart of downtown Lake Charles.

By hosting this exhibit, the center continues its mission to preserve and promote the unique cultural identity of Lake Charles and the surrounding areas. The inclusion of interactive elements is intended to appeal to all ages, making complex ideas about musical heritage accessible without diminishing their significance.
