Lake Charles, Louisiana – A 17-year-old student was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 18, after allegedly making a threat against Washington Marion High School in Lake Charles. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) received a report of the threat at approximately 12:30 p.m. and dispatched deputies to the school to investigate.

According to the CPSO, the student allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the school, as well as another student. Following an investigation, the student was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of terrorizing-menacing. This charge refers to the act of making a threat that causes fear or intimidation, and is taken seriously by law enforcement.

Detective Clay Planchard, lead investigator on the case, worked closely with the Calcasieu Parish School Board to gather information and determine the best course of action.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
