Calcasieu Parish, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a series of nightly shoulder and lane closures on Interstate 10 (I-10) in the Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Westlake areas. The closures are set to take place from Monday, February 10, 2025, through Friday, February 14, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. These closures are necessary to conduct soil boring evaluations, which are essential for assessing the suitability of the ground for future construction projects.

The following closures will be in effect during this period:

  • The right shoulder of I-10 West will be closed from Exit 27 (Sampson Street) to Exit 26 (US 90).
  • At the I-210 interchange (Exit 25), there will be a ramp closure from I-210 West to I-10 West toward Beaumont.
  • Additionally, the ramp from I-10 East to I-210 Eastbound will also be closed.
  • The right lane of I-10 East will be closed from Exit 27 (Sampson Street) to Exit 31A (Enterprise Boulevard).
  • The right shoulder from LA 379 (Sulphur Avenue) East to LA 378 (Sampson Street) South will be closed.
  • The right shoulder of I-10 West near the I-210 Interchange (mile marker 25) will be affected.
  • Drivers will experience a right shoulder closure on the I-10 West exit from Sampson Street to Westbound I-10.
  • Lastly, the right shoulder on the I-10 West entrance ramp from PPG Drive will also be closed.

Motorists in these areas are advised to exercise caution and remain alert for changing traffic patterns and potential delays. The DOTD encourages drivers to plan their routes accordingly to avoid the closures, especially during the evening hours when the work is scheduled.

Soil boring evaluations involve drilling into the ground to collect samples, which are then analyzed to determine the soil's physical and mechanical properties. This information is critical for engineering projects, as it helps to inform decisions regarding the design and construction of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
