Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, has officially resumed trash and garbage collection following significant interruptions caused by last week’s winter storm. Collection services were suspended for most of the week due to hazardous icy road conditions, which also affected operations at local landfills and transfer stations.

On Friday, January 24, 2025, crews began to resume their collection routes, working into the evening to complete Friday’s schedules. The following day, Saturday, January 25, collection efforts continued until 5:30 p.m. as crews started to address Monday’s routes.

As of Monday, January 27, crews were focused on completing the collection of Monday’s routes but also began the collection of Tuesday’s routes. On Tuesday, January 28, the plan is to finalize Tuesday’s collections before transitioning to Thursday’s routes, with the aim of completing those by the end of Wednesday.

Residents are encouraged to move their trash cans and any other refuse to the roadside, as city officials assure them that every household will receive service as quickly and safely as possible.
