LAKE CHARLES, La. – Both westbound lanes of Prien Lake Road near its intersection with Reidway Street will be closed to vehicle traffic on Wednesday, Jan. 14, as crews work to repair an underground gas utility line, according to the City of Lake Charles.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and, weather permitting, is expected to remain in place until 8 p.m. the same day. During this period, drivers will not be able to travel westbound through that portion of Prien Lake Road.
City officials stated the shutdown is necessary to allow a contractor to safely access and repair the buried gas line. Underground gas utility lines are part of the system that delivers natural gas to homes and businesses, and repairs typically require excavation, lane closures, and heavy equipment in close proximity to traffic.
No additional timeline beyond Wednesday evening has been announced, and the work schedule is dependent on weather conditions.
Residents and commuters who regularly use Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and watch for road closure signs, cones, and workers in the roadway near Reidway Street.
