Lake Charles, Louisiana – Lake Charles will experience daily road closures on Vincent Road near its intersection with Big Lake Road as utility crews work to replace power poles to comply with updated federal wind standards.
The closure will affect Vincent Road from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, Oct. 27 and continuing through Monday, Nov. 17. The three-week project focuses on upgrading existing electrical infrastructure to meet stricter federal requirements designed to improve power grid resilience during high-wind events.
Residents living along the affected stretch of Vincent Road will maintain access to their properties throughout the closure period. However, motorists using the route for through traffic will need to find alternative paths, with Big Lake Road serving as the primary detour.
The closure schedule remains subject to change based on weather conditions.
The power pole replacement represents part of a broader effort by utility companies nationwide to strengthen electrical infrastructure against severe weather. Federal wind standards were updated in recent years to account for increasingly intense storms and wind events that have stressed aging power distribution systems.
Drivers planning to travel in the area should anticipate delays and exercise caution when navigating around construction zones and detour routes. Construction crews and equipment will be present during working hours throughout the project duration.
