Lake Charles Police Provide Update on Woman Killed In Dollar General Parking Lot Crash On Country Club Road

Lake Charles, Louisiana - Lake Charles police are investigating a fatal parking lot crash that left an 83-year-old pedestrian dead outside a Dollar General store on Country Club Road.

According to the Lake Charles Police Department Traffic Division, officers were called at 2:41 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, to the Dollar General located at 2319 Country Club Road in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for a reported crash involving a pedestrian in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, they learned the victim, identified as 83-year-old Zenna Fontenot Dewitt of Lake Charles, had been struck by a vehicle while walking in the parking lot. Police say Dewitt died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation by the Traffic Division found that a 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 61-year-old Cheryl Ann Bonette of Lake Charles, left the roadway, traveled through the parking lot, and struck Dewitt as she was walking to her vehicle.

No additional details about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway have been released. The Lake Charles Police Department stated that the crash remains under active investigation by its Traffic Division.
