Lake Charles, Louisiana - Lake Charles police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts that occurred across the city over a two-day period in September.

Jesse P. Rogers, 35 of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was taken into custody on September 17, 2025, following an investigation that began with a burglary at Lake Charles Tackle in the 4900 block of Common Street.

Officers responded to an alarm at the fishing supply store at approximately 1:51 a.m. and discovered damage to an exterior door consistent with forced entry. Video surveillance footage showed a white male using a hammer-style tool to break into the business before stealing numerous items and fleeing in a vehicle.

The suspect's appearance matched that of an individual officers had encountered earlier that day regarding a theft complaint on West Prien Lake Road. Rogers had been released on a summons for that incident.

Police located Rogers' vehicle in the 4900 block of Weaver Road at approximately 4:31 a.m. Officers observed that Rogers was still wearing the same clothing from the burglary and recovered the stolen items from Lake Charles Tackle.

The investigation revealed that Rogers had committed multiple crimes on September 16 and 17. Evidence connected him to a theft from Walmart on Nelson Road on September 16, a burglary and theft from Viper X Smoke Shop on Nelson Road on September 17, a theft from Ship to Shore on Lake Street on September 17, and an attempted burglary at Thrifty Way Pharmacy on West McNeese Street on September 17.

Rogers faces nine total charges: two counts of burglary, four counts of theft, one count of attempted burglary, one count of criminal damage to property, and one count of possession of burglary tools. Judge Tony Fazzio set his total bond at $209,500.

Since his initial arrest, four additional warrants have been served on Rogers at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

Detective Timothy Duplechan is leading the ongoing investigation. The initial response was handled by Corporal Osvaldo Laboy-Santiago, Corporal Bret Dommert, and Corporal Brennan Bernat. Evidence Officer Briana Staggs processed the crime scenes.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to call the Lake Charles Police Department at 337-491-1311 or submit an anonymous tip through the Lake Charles PD app.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
