Lake Charles, Louisiana - Lake Charles Police Department officers arrested a 15-year-old boy Monday afternoon in connection with a shooting that left an adult man wounded on the city’s south side, authorities said.
According to Lake Charles Police, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, to the 2000 block of 4th Avenue in reference to reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found one adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police said the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. No additional details about his condition or the nature of his injuries have been released.
Investigators said the victim was able to positively identify the suspect. Based on that identification, officers located a 15-year-old juvenile male at about 4:23 p.m. the same day and took him into custody without reported incident.
The juvenile suspect was transported to the Calcasieu Juvenile Detention Center, where he was booked. Lake Charles Police said he is charged with:
- Aggravated second-degree battery – a serious felony charge that generally involves intentionally causing serious bodily injury with a dangerous weapon.
- Possession of a firearm by a juvenile – a charge that applies when a person under 18 is illegally in possession of a gun under Louisiana law.
Lake Charles Police stated that the incident remains under active investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review any possible surveillance footage from the 2000 block of 4th Avenue and surrounding areas.
