LAKE CHARLES, La. — The City of Lake Charles has reopened two key highway overpasses that were previously shut down due to concerns about ice forming on the roadway.

As of Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, the Enterprise Boulevard Overpass, between Fournet Street and the Interstate 10 Service Road, and the Shattuck Street Overpass, between Opelousas Street and the I-10 Service Road, are now open to traffic.

City officials had closed the overpasses earlier as a precaution, citing the possibility of ice on the elevated road surfaces. Overpasses and bridges typically freeze faster than standard roadways because cold air passes over and under the structures, allowing ice to form more quickly when temperatures drop.

The reopening restores normal traffic flow on two important north-south connections in Lake Charles that link local streets to the I-10 corridor. The Enterprise Boulevard Overpass and the Shattuck Street Overpass both serve as regular routes for commuters, commercial vehicles, and local residents moving between neighborhoods and interstate access roads.

Drivers using the Enterprise Boulevard and Shattuck Street overpasses are encouraged to continue using caution during periods of cold or wet weather, especially on elevated structures such as bridges and overpasses, which can still be vulnerable to sudden changes in conditions.
