Lake Charles NWS Issues Freeze Warning for Southwest Louisiana and Other areas March 12 and 13

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Freeze Warning for parts of Louisiana, including Calcasieu Parish. The freeze warning will be in effect from Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 9 p.m. until Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 6 a.m.

Temperatures as low as 29 degrees Fahrenheit are expected during the Freeze Warning. Parts of central, south-central, and southwest Louisiana, as well as southeast Texas, are included in the warning area. Frost and freezing temperatures will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, as well as potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take precautions to protect tender plants from the elements. Outdoor water pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to avoid freezing and possible burst. Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to avoid freezing.
