Lake Charles, Louisiana – On February 21, 2025, Louisiana State Police Troop D launched an investigation into a tragic two-vehicle crash that occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 385, also known as Gulf Highway in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The incident involved a motorcycle and a car, resulting in the death of 52-year-old Carson McCain from Lake Charles.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that McCain was riding a 2006 Honda motorcycle, traveling northbound on LA Hwy 385. At the same time, a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, operated by 35-year-old Catharine Carlin of Deridder, was following behind the motorcycle. As McCain prepared to slow down and make a left turn into a private driveway, the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the motorcycle. The impact caused McCain to be ejected from his bike.

Despite wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved helmet, McCain suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Carlin, who was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In accordance with standard procedure, toxicology samples were collected from both drivers to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading to this tragic crash.

In light of this incident, law enforcement officials are reminding all motorists to prioritize safety while driving. They urge drivers to avoid impaired, fatigued, or distracted driving practices to help prevent future incidents on the road.
