Lake Charles Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Kidnapping and Other Charges

Published January 7, 2022

On January 7, 2022, the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office reported that Judge David Ritchie sentenced RJ Bartie, 41, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, to 30 years in prison on one count of home invasion; 30 years in prison on one count of second-degree kidnapping; and 20 years in prison on one count of attempted second-degree kidnapping. These sentences are to run concurrently and are all without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

In September 2021, Bartie was found guilty as charged on one count of home invasion and one count of second-degree kidnapping; and was also found guilty of one count of attempted second-degree kidnapping.

In 2018, Bartie showed up at the victim’s house brandishing a firearm and threatening everyone inside. Bartie then broke into the victim’s home without permission and forced her into his vehicle, from which she managed to flee but was subsequently recaptured by Bartie inside her home. The victim’s father shot Bartie during the second capture, allowing the victim to flee to safety. Bartie was taken to the hospital and recovered from his injuries.

Assistant District Attorneys Ross Murray and Charles Robinson prosecuted the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
