Lake Charles, Louisiana - A Lake Charles man was arrested on August 18 following an armed incident that resulted in shots being fired at police officers and a response from law enforcement. Officers were called to the 1900 block of 9th Street around 5:38 p.m. after receiving reports that 37-year-old Justin Jamar Duncan of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was threatening people at the scene with a firearm.

When officers arrived, Duncan reportedly stood on the residence’s front porch and issued verbal threats toward law enforcement. Authorities stated Duncan then retreated inside and discharged his firearm through a window, aiming at officers who were positioned around the property perimeter.

Shortly after the shots were fired, Duncan attempted to flee by exiting the home’s rear door without the firearm, but police quickly apprehended him. Officers later recovered the weapon used in the incident inside the house. No injuries were reported among officers or bystanders.

Duncan was transported to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Facility and booked on several charges:

  • Attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
  • Aggravated criminal damage to property.

Judge Tony Fazzio set Duncan’s bond at $900,000.

Detective Sgt. William Loving is leading the investigation.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
