Lake Charles, Louisiana - A Lake Charles man already jailed on child pornography and bestiality charges is now facing dozens of additional counts following an ongoing investigation by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) Special Victims Unit, which is part of the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, began investigating on July 7 after receiving a complaint from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Detectives say the investigation revealed that Zachary P. Gautreau, 28, of Lake Charles, was in possession of child sexual abuse material, as well as videos containing bestiality, which is sexual abuse involving animals.
Warrant Issued For Additional Charges
On November 26, Special Victims Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gautreau. The warrant, signed by Judge Lee Hoffoss, was set at $2.5 million.
Gautreau has been incarcerated at the Calcasieu Correctional Center since July 18. He was originally booked on 9 counts of pornography involving juveniles and sexual abuse of animals, according to CPSO.
Following further review of the evidence, detectives sought and obtained additional charges. Gautreau has now been additionally charged with:
- 44 counts of pornography involving juveniles
- 8 counts of sexual abuse of an animal
These new counts are in addition to the original charges, significantly increasing the total number of allegations against him.
Role Of National Center For Missing & Exploited Children And Task Force
The case began with a report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), a nonprofit organization that serves as a clearinghouse for tips related to missing and exploited children across the United States. Technology companies, internet service providers, and members of the public often submit reports when they suspect child sexual abuse material is being shared or stored online.
Those tips are then routed to local law enforcement and specialized units, such as the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force is a multi-agency effort focused on identifying, investigating, and prosecuting individuals who exploit children online.
In this case, CPSO Special Victims Unit detectives, who are assigned to that task force, handled the local investigation.
Ongoing Investigation
CPSO identified Detective Senior Sergeant Alexander Vincent as the lead investigator on the case. Authorities have not released further details about the nature of the evidence, how it was discovered, or whether any additional suspects are being sought.
No trial date or court appearances were included in the information released. As of the latest update, Gautreau remains incarcerated at the Calcasieu Correctional Center under the new warrant and charges.
All individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
