Lake Charles, Louisiana – On February 28th, Kevin E. Williams, a 26-year-old resident of Lake Charles, was found guilty of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice related to the fatal shooting of a victim during a planned armed robbery. The verdict was reached following a trial that revealed the details of the incident that occurred in 2023.

According to prosecutors, Williams orchestrated the robbery with the intent to steal from the victim. When the two men met, the situation escalated, resulting in Williams shooting the victim in the head, which ultimately led to the victim’s death. The prosecution described the crime as premeditated, indicating that Williams had thought through the plan to commit robbery.

The court proceedings were handled by the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, with First Assistant District Attorney Jacob Johnson and Chief of Litigation Charles Robinson leading the prosecution. They presented a case that emphasized the severity of Williams’ actions and the implications of his choices.

As a result of the conviction, Williams now faces a potential life sentence in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 10th and will be presided over by Judge Kendrick Guidry. The case has drawn attention to the issues of violent crime and the consequences that arise from such actions in the community.

Second-degree murder typically refers to a non-premeditated killing, but in this case, the evidence suggested a level of planning that warranted the charges brought against Williams. Obstruction of justice, on the other hand, generally involves actions that interfere with the investigation or prosecution of a crime.
