Lake Charles Man Arrested for Drug and Firearm Charges Following Execution of Search Warrant

A Lake Charles man has been arrested and charged with possession of CDS I with intent to distribute; 2 counts of possession of CDS II; possession of CDS IV; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS after the C.A.T. team executed a search warrant at an apartment on 5th Avenue.

From the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lake Charles, LA – On May 3, detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) conducted an investigation at 4101 5th Avenue apartment #6107 in Lake Charles in reference to citizen complaints of drug activity at the residence. When deputies arrived at the apartment they made contact with the resident, Duane K. Huntsberry, 23, who is a convicted felon.

While speaking with Huntsberry and conducting their initial investigation detectives obtained enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for the home. Upon execution of the warrant detectives located 745 milliliters of promethazine, 8 oxycodone pills, 2 hydrocodone pills, 7 alprazolam tablets, and 1.5 pounds of marijuana. Detectives also seized a Troy AR .223 caliber pistol along with a loaded magazine containing 29 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition and an additional 171 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition. The estimated street value of the illegal narcotics seized from the home is $12,000.
Huntsberry was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of CDS I with intent to distribute; 2 counts of possession of CDS II; possession of CDS IV; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS.

Judge Mike Canaday set his bond at $167,500.​
