Lake Charles, Louisiana - On July 22, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives assisted the Lake Charles Police Department after a juvenile, under the age of 10, was reported as a runaway. During the initial investigation, the child disclosed running away due to inappropriate touching by a family member. Following these claims, the child was transported to the Children’s Advocacy Center for a formal interview.
During the interview, the juvenile accused Steven R. Banks, 39, of Lake Charles, Louisiana of raping him on several occasions, with the most recent incident allegedly occurring in June. The child also reported that Banks forced him to watch pornographic videos depicting relationships between family members.
Authorities continued their investigation, which led to Banks' arrest. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with first degree rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile. His bond was set at $1.85 million by Judge Tony Fazzio. According to officials, Deputy Daniel Hennigan handled the arrest, and Detective Chassie Huval led the investigation.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
