Lake Charles Man Arrested for Alleged Contractor Fraud

Published August 5, 2021

A Lake Charles man has been arrested by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives and charged with residential contractor fraud of $1,500 or more.

Lake Charles, LA – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported that on May 17, 2021, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a complaint in reference to an incident involving contractor fraud. The victim told Calcasieu Parish detectives that he had hired Olaf P. Shreve II, 60, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, in January to complete repairs on his home. The victim stated that he had paid Shreve half the cost of the materials, which was $5,000. Shreve reportedly cashed the check but did not deliver the materials or start repairs. Detectives later found that Shreve does not possess a contractor’s license.

On July 8, 2021, Calcasieu Parish detectives issued a warrant signed by Judge Tony Fazzio for Shreve’s arrest. Shreve was then arrested on August 3, 2021, and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with residential contractor fraud of $1,500 or more. He was released the following day on a $20,000 bond.

Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso said, “We are not going to allow these criminals to take advantage of the citizens in our community.” “We are working together with DA Stephen Dwight and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office. If you believe you have been a victim of contractor fraud or are unsure whether an actual crime has been committed call the Contractor Fraud Response Team at 337-437-3405.”

CPSO Detective John Coffman is the lead investigator on this case.
