On March 17, deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were sent to a residence on East Opelousas Street in Lake Charles, Louisiana after receiving a report of animal cruelty.

Upon arrival at the scene, Estevan E. Pappion, a 26-year-old resident of Lake Charles, informed the deputies that he discovered one of his dogs had been shot and killed when he opened the door to his home. He mentioned that he did not enter the house but immediately closed the door and contacted the authorities.

Following a more thorough inquiry, Pappion confessed to the authorities that he was the one who had fired the gun at the dog. As a result, he was taken into custody and taken to the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he faced charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and criminal mischief. Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $45,500, and he was eventually released.

CPSO Deputy Hunter Keehnen is the deputy who made the arrest in this case.

Detective Jill Feverjean from CPSO is in charge of leading the investigation in this case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
