Lake Charles Man Arrested for 25 Counts of Forgery & Fraud

A Lake Charles man has been arrested and charged with 25 counts of forgery and fraud involving a local non-profit.

From the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lake Charles, LA – On August 10, 2020, Detectives received a report of theft in which a local non-profit organization found records showing Austin Tyler Ramos had stolen funds from the charity in a scheme relating to fraudulent house fires.

Records dating back to 2019 show that Ramos used his position/credentials and his work laptop to create fake fire reports utilizing false names and addresses, which then allowed the release of funds that were then loaded onto gift cards. Records further show Ramos then removed money from the gift cards at local ATMs. The total amount of theft is $16,075.50.
On May 24 he was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
Detective Shelli Fontenot was the lead detective.
