Lake Charles, Louisiana – Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 (I-10) in Lake Charles should be prepared for lane closures on Sunday, September 29, 2024, as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) performs shoulder maintenance on the highway.

The left lane of I-10 Eastbound and Westbound from Milepost 28.0 to Milepost 34.0 will be closed from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Crews will start work on the eastbound lane before moving to the westbound lane. The closures are necessary to allow crews to safely perform maintenance on the highway’s shoulders, which are the areas along the side of the road.

Maintenance work is routine and essential to ensure the safety and durability of the highway. The DOTD regularly performs maintenance on the state’s highways to prevent damage and extend their lifespan. This work may include tasks such as repairing or replacing damaged pavement, cleaning drainage systems, and trimming vegetation.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destinations. The lane closures may cause delays, especially during peak travel times. Drivers should also be aware of the roadwork and exercise caution when approaching the work zone.
