Lake Charles Storm Debris Removal Efforts in Full Swing After Severe Weather

Lake Charles, Louisiana - In response to the aftermath of severe weather on April 10, 2024, city solid waste crews in Lake Charles have joined forces with a storm debris removal contractor to efficiently clear residential vegetative storm debris. This collaboration aims to streamline the collection process and ensure a swift restoration of affected areas.

Residents are urged to aid in this by placing all vegetative storm debris curbside for collection. The collection efforts are scheduled to span the next two weeks, emphasizing the importance of timely cooperation to expedite the cleanup process.

The City of Lake Charles wants to remind residents to avoid obstructing sidewalks, storm drains, and drainage ditches with debris piles, facilitating smooth operations for the crews.

It is crucial to note that only owner-occupied residential properties are eligible for this pick-up service. If a contractor has been engaged to clear debris from private property, it is incumbent upon the contractor to arrange for the disposal of these materials. Debris items suitable for curbside collection include bagged leaves, grass clippings, weeds, branches, shrubbery, vines, and limbs. For ease of handling, limbs should be trimmed to 4 feet or shorter and measure less than 4 inches in diameter. Items exceeding 50 pounds, such as large tree stumps, fall outside the scope of eligible pick-up items.

Residents seeking clarification on debris-related questions or wishing to report any missed debris are encouraged to contact 337-491-1220 for assistance.
