Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the commencement of work on State Project H.015598, focusing on lighting repairs along Interstate 210. This project, valued at $8.09 million, aims to enhance visibility near and on the I-210 Prien Lake Bridge through the installation of new lighting systems, as well as necessary electrical repairs and upgrades.

Starting today, March 10, 2025, drivers can expect single nightly lane closures on I-210 Eastbound, which will continue until March 14. In addition, single nightly lane closures on I-210 Westbound will commence on March 12 and extend through March 14. These lane closures are essential for the re-striping of travel lanes, allowing for a safe shift of traffic during the construction phase.

A full nightly closure of I-210 Westbound over the Prien Lake Bridge is set to begin on March 14, lasting until March 20. This closure will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. and is necessary for the installation of a concrete barrier, which is crucial for improving safety and operational efficiency.

The scheduled closures are as follows (all closures are from Mile Marker 1 to Exit 3):

  • I-210 Eastbound: Alternating left and right lane closures from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. from March 10 to March 14.
  • I-210 Westbound: Alternating left and right lane closures from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. from March 12 to March 14.
  • I-210 Westbound: Full nightly closure from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. from March 14 to March 20. Additionally, the westbound left lane will be closed all other hours of the day and night starting March 14.

Once these preliminary closures are completed, drivers should prepare for a continuous left lane closure along I-210 Westbound from Exit 3 to Mile Marker 1. This closure will start just east of Cove Lane; however, the Cove Lane exit will remain accessible during the ongoing work.

An 11-foot width restriction will be enforced throughout the duration of the project to ensure the safety of both the construction crews and motorists.

The contractor for this project is Kiewit Louisiana Co., and the anticipated completion date is set for the fall of 2025, provided that weather conditions permit.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and remain vigilant for changing traffic patterns during this construction period.
