Lake Charles, Louisiana – Westbound and northbound traffic routes out of Lake Charles are again experiencing severe congestion on Wednesday afternoon, with multiple major roadways reduced to near-standstill conditions as of 3:30 p.m.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has not reported any recent crashes in the affected areas, indicating the widespread delays stem from ongoing construction projects throughout the region.
I-10 Congestion Spans Calcasieu River Bridge
Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 began experiencing significant slowdowns near Exit 31 at Enterprise Boulevard. The congestion extended across the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge, with the most severe delays occurring near the Ryan Street exit, where vehicles moved at crawling speeds.
The backup created a domino effect for commuters attempting to leave Lake Charles during the afternoon rush period. Drivers reported extended travel times on what are typically the area’s most reliable transportation corridors.
I-210 Traffic Grinds to Halt
Interstate 210 westbound experienced similar conditions, with congestion beginning around Exit 6 at Ryan Street. Traffic reached near-standstill status from Lake Street extending to the I-210 Bridge, effectively blocking one of Lake Charles’ primary alternate routes.
The simultaneous congestion on both interstate highways left commuters with limited options for efficient westbound travel out of the city.
US 171 Northbound Delays Continue
Northbound traffic on US Highway 171 in Moss Bluff also experienced significant delays. The slowdowns began near Fitzenreiter Road in Lake Charles and continued through the intersection with Louisiana Highway 378, also known as Sam Houston Jones Parkway.
This route typically serves as a key corridor for residents traveling north from Lake Charles.
