Lake Charles, Louisiana - A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested and fired following a reported domestic disturbance at a Lake Charles apartment complex, according to information released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 p.m. on December 6, deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex on Nelson Road in Lake Charles in reference to a domestic disturbance. Detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) also responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Following the initial investigation, authorities arrested Ashley E. Roy, 28, who was employed as a deputy with CPSO at the time of the incident. Roy was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with domestic abuse battery.

Judge Kendrick Guidry ordered that Roy be held without bond pending a Gwen’s Law hearing. Gwen’s Law, passed in Louisiana, allows judges to keep certain domestic violence suspects in jail without bond until a special hearing can be held. At that hearing, the court considers factors such as the safety of the alleged victim and the community before deciding whether to set bond and under what conditions.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Roy worked in the Corrections Division and had been employed with CPSO for more than two years. Following the incident and her arrest, she was terminated by Sheriff Stitch Guillory.

No additional details about the domestic disturbance, possible injuries, or any other parties involved were provided in the information available.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
