Lake Charles, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred in Lake Charles early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a Lake Charles woman and injuring another person. The crash took place around 1 a.m. when a 2018 Ram, driven by 34-year-old Kaneka Allen, of Lake Charles collided head-on with a parked vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai Sonata.
The Ram was traveling eastbound on 9th Street when Allen attempted a wide right turn onto 4th Avenue. During this maneuver, the Ram entered the oncoming lane and struck the Hyundai, which was parked facing west on the north side of the roadway. Kevatauki Williams, 35, was the driver of the Hyundai. She was transported to a local hospital after the crash but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
In addition to Williams, a passenger in the Hyundai sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital. This passenger received treatment and was later released.
Authorities arrested Kaneka Allen for driving while intoxicated. Standard toxicology tests are pending, and the Lake Charles Police Department is continuing its investigation. There is a possibility that charges against Allen may be upgraded as the investigation progresses.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
