Lake Charles, Louisiana – On February 17, deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) responded to a call regarding a burglary in progress at a business located near Helms Road and Tom Hebert Road in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The alert was triggered by surveillance cameras that had previously been installed at the property due to a series of thefts.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two individuals on the premises attempting to abscond with large quantities of copper wire, a material that is often targeted for theft due to its high market value. The suspects were believed to have taken refuge in a nearby marshy area. Deputies issued several verbal commands for the suspects to surrender; however, their calls were met with silence. Consequently, CPSO K9 Storm was deployed to assist in the search.

K9 Storm proved effective, successfully locating both suspects, who were later identified as Calvin L. Droddy, 35, and Kenneth P. Petty, 38, both residents of Lake Charles, Louisiana. During the apprehension process, both men sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following their medical release, Droddy and Petty were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. They face multiple charges, including simple burglary, criminal trespass, and simple criminal damage to property. In addition, Droddy faces further charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which refer to items used to consume or store illegal drugs.

As of now, the bonds for Droddy and Petty are still pending, meaning they have not yet been set or paid. The arresting deputy on this case is Blake Davenport, while Detective Sonny Schiro is serving as the lead investigator.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
