Lake Charles, Louisiana — As Memorial Day approaches, the City of Lake Charles has announced changes to municipal services in observance of the holiday, which falls on Monday, May 26, 2025. Both residents and businesses are advised to note adjustments to trash and garbage collection, as well as closures of several city services.
City Hall and Public Works Closures
City Hall in Lake Charles will be closed on Memorial Day. In addition, all services under the Department of Public Works—including Recycling Operations at Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane, the Roving Green Truck, and the city incinerator—will suspend operations for the day. Regular hours for these services will resume on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Revised Trash and Garbage Collection Schedule
Due to the holiday, there will be no trash or garbage collection on Monday, May 26. The city has issued the following adjustments for residents:
- Monday routes: Trash and garbage normally collected on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, May 27.
- Tuesday routes: Trash and garbage normally collected on Tuesday will be picked up on Wednesday, May 28.
- Thursday and Friday routes: No changes; these will follow the usual schedule.
This temporary shift ensures that all Lake Charles residents receive trash and garbage collection during the holiday week, though some may experience a one-day delay. Residents are reminded to place containers and items for removal before 7 a.m. on their collection day, or on the evening before. Containers should be removed no later than 7 p.m. on the day of collection.
Resident Responsibilities
The city stresses that owners, occupants, and tenants are responsible for collecting any spillage that may occur from their containers. Proper placement and timely removal of containers help maintain clean streets and efficient service.
Recycling and Other City Services
All recycling operations, including the drop-off sites at Nelson Ball Field and Alma Lane, as well as the Roving Green Truck, will not operate on Memorial Day. The city incinerator will also be closed. All these services will return to normal hours on the following day, Tuesday, May 27.
