City of Lake Charles Second Quarter Partners in Parks Events

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles is gearing up for an exciting second quarter of 2024 with a diverse lineup of Partners in Parks events that promise fun and entertainment for the whole family. These events are free, family-friendly, and open to the public, offering a fantastic opportunity for residents to enjoy the city’s public spaces.

The action-packed schedule kicks off on Saturday, April 6, with the Project Build-A-Future Fishing for Fun event at Riverside Park from 10 am to noon. This event promises a great time for all attendees, with fishing activities and community bonding opportunities.

On Saturday, April 13, don’t miss the US Coast Guard’s Wind, Waves & Wheels event near Veterans Memorial Park, scheduled from 10 am to noon. This event is sure to offer a unique and exciting experience for park visitors of all ages.

Team Green will be celebrating Love the Boot Week on Saturday, April 20, by partnering with the Better Business Bureau of Southwest Louisiana for Shred Fest at SJ Welsh Middle School from 9 am to noon. This event will provide a great opportunity to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement.

The month of April will also feature the return of Art in the Park at Central School on April 27, running from 10 am to noon. This event will showcase local artistic talent and provide a creative space for park-goers to enjoy.

As May rolls around, park visitors can look forward to a variety of engaging events, including the Region 5 Stem Center’s North Beach cardboard canoe races on Saturday, May 11 from 10 am until noon. Additionally, on May 11, the Calcasieu Parish Library will host Book it to the Park at J.D. Clifton Park from 10 am until noon.

On May 18 from 10 am until noon there will be a city-wide scavenger hunt to celebrate National Kids to Parks Day Scavenger Hunt and Sasol’s Nature in Focus Wings of Wonder and All Things Birds.

June will close out the second quarter with a bang, featuring Phillips 66 STEM Day in the Park on June 1 at Drew Park from 10 am until noon. Mallard Golf Club’s Junior Golf Camp is on June 3 from 10 am until noon at Grace Medora Park. Entergy will present Arcs – n – Sparks on June 15 at Hillcrest Park from 10 am until noon. There will also be another installment of Art in the Park on June 29 at McMillan Park from 10 am until noon.

These events promise a mix of educational, recreational, and cultural experiences for park visitors of all interests.

Mayor Nic Hunter expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming events, highlighting the success of the Partners in Parks initiative in enhancing the city’s public spaces and fostering community engagement. Since its launch in July 2018, Partners in Parks has raised over $1.6M for City parks without imposing additional taxes on local citizens.
